NOTE: Fido Valves are available. Order the regular replacement valves and email us to let us know you want the fido version.
This item is currently made to order, turnaround time is about 2-3 weeks.
The pickling jar EVERYONE wants! Fido canning jar with an airlock lid. Currently available in 1 qt size (other sizes will be added, according to demand – speak up if you prefer a different size!).
Comes with jar, lid, and latex gasket
Lid may be interchanged with other Fido Jars. The silicone valve in the lid works the same as our standard Fermenta Lock valve, to let gas out, but not let air in.
NOTE: If you need other jar sizes, it is LESS EXPENSIVE for you to order the LID only, and purchase other jar sizes locally.
By the time we order in larger size jars, and calculate our increased costs for handling the larger jars, it costs MORE than the combined cost of the lid only, and a locally purchased jar.
Uses a 1″ valve, which is easier to insert into the lid after cleaning than smaller size valves or grommets.
Simple to use! No fussy water lock, just a simple valve that pops out for cleaning. Put your veggies and brine in the jar, add your weights (and extender if you are using one), and close the lid. When you smell a pickled smell on the top of the valve (usually after two days), you know it is working. You don’t have to touch it, monitor it, worry about water in it, or anything else. Just close and go! No parts to keep sorted out, and you can’t knock it off the top of the jar! Fermenta Fido fits easily in the fridge, with no awkward thingy sticking up in the way.
Made from a genuine Bormioli Rocco Fido Jar, manufactured in Italy.

Fermenta Lock is an entirely original airlock concept. No cumbersome water lock to mess with, no awkward thingy sticking up off the top of the jar – you won’t have to worry about putting it in the fridge, or knocking the airlock off!
A smooth and elegant one-way valve lets air out, but not in. Pops out easily for cleaning, no clumsy latches or inaccessible parts. Use the airlock lid during fermenting when gas release is important. Swap it out for a plain lid from a regular Fido jar for storage – no need to mess with corks and stoppers that can pop out.
Easy to use – just close the lid. Nothing else to do, it just works!
How the One-Way Valve works
The one-way valve is a traditional concept (this kind of valve has been used in many applications for a very long time). Pressure from the outside is deflected down around the curve of the cap, instead of through. Pressure from the inside pushes through, because it is not deflected.
This is the same way an egg stays strong from the outside, but still allows a fragile new chick to break it from the inside.
